So, we started a new medication.
Nate was taking 0.05 mg of Clonidine for about 1 month, before that, it was 0.025 mg of Clonidine for about 7 months. At first it worked great, then... it stopped. Nate's aggression and mood swings returned, and I really struggled to tell if it was from being FOUR, or from his ASD. That's why we upped his Clonidine dosage.
When nothing changed, and his aggression started getting MUCH worse, I went to his pediatrician. His pediatrician recommended starting Risperidone. I was on the fence, as it is an anti-psychotic medication, used to treat schizophrenia, but also to help balance mood, movement and dopamine levels in children.
Nick works with Autistic adults, and a few of his clients are on this med, so he assured me it was worth a try.
We are now 3 days in. This med takes a while to acclimate in the system, so we shouldn't be seeing any major changes for a while - but already his sleep and mood have seemed to improve.
Here's hoping we can get him even-keeled enough to make it through the difficulties that are being 4, while still keeping our amazing little rockstar's personality.
